Weekend in Black and White: The Bottom of Market Street

The premises for sale next door to the furniture shop were most recently occupied by the Jaipur Indian restaurant before they moved to Clarendon Place before moving again to the top end of Market Street.

A contribution to The Weekend in Black and White.

  2. The same sort of scene can be found in so many towns. I do like that ironwork in the foreground.

  4. Thanks Gerald for all your photo's and efforts to monitor the ongoing progress in Hyde. I was born there (Syddall St) many moons ago. This photo is it not at the bottom end of Hyde lane? The wrought iron in the foreground being part of the building that Shipman was in?

All the best and keep up the good work, your photo's are great!
    John.

    1. Hi John - Hyde Lane is called Market Street these days and indeed Shipman's surgery was in the part behind the colonnade.

  5. Did both these shops originally have verandahs on posts, or the very least awnings. Sad to see so many verandahs and awnings removed. Public safety I suppose.

  7. Our high Street is littered with empty shops, but we are currently going through a regeneration, so hopefully they may soon come alive again. Really suited scene for monochrome.
